What would you do if you woke up on the coast and the only survival items you had were a torch and a big stone? Think about it for a few seconds and you may be thinking about asking for help or looking for food and water, right? Well, my friends, this is not your usual survival game, this is a pretty hardcore game but do not worry if you are thinking about avoiding this title because there are options for everybody, from the most newbie person to the expert and extreme player out there.
The game can be played in multiple ways, as it allows you to play as a solo player or you can also join with friends and work as a team, it depends on your style, as a lone wolf, or as a member of the pack. The mechanics of the game are based on the core of any survival game, you gather resources and build stuff to keep yourself alive, however, there are dangers lurking around; enemy players, wild animals, and NPCs, just to name a few. The start can be rough for new players, chopping a tree with a rock and then making a crafted stone axe to keep gathering wood to build your house could be a very slow start but considering there will be other players around it makes everything more interesting, you could go for the hostile route and craft a pike and start hunting players, the game offers multiple ways to specialize your character and decide which artifacts you want to craft, some are available at the beginning but others need to be researched.
To learn the recipe for new crafts you need to pay with scrap metal using a workbench, you need to farm this scrap which is the currency of the game. After some grinding, you will be able to start learning how to create these advanced items that will make your life easier, which could be stronger buildings, guns, gear, or even miscellaneous items like a guitar or a piano.
I will not lie to you, playing Rust is a very frustrating thing at the beginning because there is no clear tutorial or place on the island (yes, the map is a randomly generated island) that is not peaceful for beginners. In this game, you will have to learn the hard way: dying countless times to multiple factors like wild animals, enemy players, hostile NPCs, or even because you are thirsty or hungry.
But besides that, not everything is bad news, the game is a gem because if you want a slow start there are multiple servers some of them officials while others are created by huge communities, they can have different settings making some of them very friendly for beginners where you can practice and improve your skills while others are just chaos and mayhem designed for the most skilled players.
The game lacks in terms of music and lore but is a game with tons of content created by its own players making the customization of your items something magnificent that will give you and your base a unique style. The game allows you to play solo or with a team, and the goal of the game is not defined which means that you are the one who decides what is the goal; creating a huge base, exploring the map, fighting NPCs, raiding other player’s bases, or becoming a merchant to start your own shop to trade with players. The opportunities are infinite, and the game is great but as I said before is not for everybody as it can be very frustrating, especially when you are starting, once you get used to the game is a very enjoyable experience that will challenge even the most veteran players.
