Hello!! Today I would like to write about a world-famous online game, and to which I have dedicated my time this week to play and I must say, with a bit of addiction. This is “Among Us”, the well-known online multiplayer game for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, among many other platforms. But who has been exploited mostly for Android.
It is an online video game that you play with other players in the world. It was designed by Marcus Bromander, developed by Innersloth, Schell Games and PlayEveryWare and published by Innersloth. And, with a release date of June 15, 2018, “Among Us” is a video game classified for over 10 years with a fairly simple dynamic but with many details that cannot be ignored if you want to win. For an agile and good development, the recommended number of players is from 4 to 10, since the game does not allow you more number of players, and with less the final objective does not make sense.
In this way, at the beginning of each game, the game assigns two different roles: normal player and murderer or impostor. In each game there are two impostors and the final objective of the rest of the players is to find out who these two impostors are while trying to survive. The impostor’s objective is to kill the rest of the players until there are more impostors than normal players. When an impostor kills a crewmate, the crewmate dies and turns into a ghost that can still try to do tasks or follow what’s happening on the map. However, they cannot be part of the vote because they have already died. To do this, he must not be discovered and must act like another normal player in the voting.
The mechanics is as follows. The game starts and the players are inside a ship where they can look at their map where there are different rooms with missions to carry out. While everything happens, the impostors have to kill a crew member. When a crew member is killed and another discovers it, they report it, and then a voting phase is opened to decide who is the impostor. Several things can happen in voting. If no one is sure, the game continues. If the majority of the crew votes for the same person, he will be injected from the ship and killed, and the game will tell you whether or not they were the impostor, and how many are left. In either case, the game will continue, and the remaining impostor(s) will have to try to continue acting without arousing suspicion.
It is an agile and entertaining mechanic that is familiar with the well-known card game “the liar”, where players drop cards that can be true or false. Thus, playing “Among Us” stands out for the fun and mystery it generates, since finding out who the impostor is generates many fun and disparate debates. Without a doubt my favourite part of the game. In these votes the atmosphere is tense, and arguments are alleged that many times you cannot defend. When you are an impostor, it is even more fun to see how nobody knows the truth and to see how others are accused.
Trying to figure out what is going on and who is to blame is very entertaining. At the same time, I think that one of the parts that I would highlight about this game is the fact that you can play with interconnected players from all over the world. I find it much more entertaining, and it is, without a doubt, much more intercultural. Meeting people from other places and playing at that moment without knowing each other at all is something that I have appreciated a lot. You can also play with friends that you already know, as I did in a couple of times, but the experience is certainly not the same. When you play with people you don’t know, you get into the game more fully and you experience the game as something more serious and real. With friends it’s more fun but less interesting.
However, one of the negative parts that could be highlighted are some of these missions that normal players must carry out on board the ship, since many of them end up being tedious and repetitive. Sometimes you can’t even finish doing them because of their difficulty, and many others are repeated in different rooms. For example, some of them are fixing the wiring through a map of coloured cables, aligning a telescope that must point to some circles, opening a safe…
At the same time, many times, there are players who form votes without the impostor having killed or without evident evidence, and, in my opinion, this serves nothing more than to create false theories. Despite these glitches, I’d say I’ve enjoyed most of the time I’ve spent playing it, and definitely had a good time. I recommend it in this way to all those who love interactive games and especially to younger and more restless people.
