This course focuses on the connections between games and gamification and current sustainability challenges (e.g., climate change, responsible consumption and production, and clean energy), including engaging players with said issues. After an introduction to a specific sustainability topic, students will discover, analyze and discuss playful resources related to it. They will also be provided with methods to create and evaluate game prototypes. By the end of the course, the students will have created a sustainability game of their choice. The course draws perspectives from multiple areas of knowledge, with significant emphasis on Game Studies, Environmental Science, Psychology, Communication, and Education.
