- Fundamentals of Optical Design: Optical surfaces, cardinal points, marginal and chief rays, ray bundle, stops and pupils, basics of ray tracing
- Optical systems: Thin and thick lenses, systems of lenses, imaging and non-imaging systems
- Aberrations: Image degradation due to monochromatic and chromatic aberrations
- Design software: Basics of design and analysis software. Exploring the software's capabilities for analyzing and optimizing optical systems.
- Tolerance analysis: Taking tolerances of components and assembly into account for manufacturing and construction.
