Jorge Luis Borges, one of the most influential writers of the 20th century, was known for his fascination with English and American literature. He even was a professor of this field of study at the University of Buenos Aires and also published, in co-authorship with two women writers, an Introduction to English Literature (1965) and an Introduction to North American Literature (1967). On the basis of these theoretical works, this course will address the influences of various canonical works in English on Borges’ poetics.
