The module examines global phenomena as part of the social and political intertwining of the global and the local. The module explores these global phenomena through a social science perspective and introduces various theoretical approaches to understanding them. Social scientific globalisation studies focus on questions concerning the economy, inequality and good life, but also on climate change, population policy and environmental questions. Development policy, conflicts and the rights of women and girls are central problems in the Global South, and the Global North plays a multifaceted role in these problems. Global inequality is examined through an intersectional perspective, which emphasises the cumulative effects of different social positions, such as gender, ethnicity, race and class.
