The course introduces the key principles of research ethics and their epistemic, ethical, and social rationale. It describes how research ethical principles should guide research planning, data collection and management, scientific reasoning, publishing, evaluation, scientific collaboration, and the practices of scientific communities. The course explains the rights of human participants in research and discusses the social responsibility of the researcher. The course introduces research ethical guidelines and provides tools to identify research misconduct and disregard for good research practices. The course provides an overview of ethical review in Finland.
