With the help of key concepts in gender studies, students become familiar with issues concerning non-discrimination and gender equality as well as inequalities and discrimination. They learn about historical and current debates on gender equality and discrimination and gain a general understanding of the legal and the equality and non-discrimination policy measures that can be undertaken to prevent discrimination based on gender, age, ethnicity or national origin, nationality, language, religion, belief, opinion, health status, disability, sexual orientation or other personal attributes. Among the themes discussed in the module are the gendered nature of the labour market and of care work, the pay gap, sexual harassment and violence, the right to abortion, the gender gap in health, gendered norms in politics and the status of sexual and gender minorities.
