The course focuses on introducing latest techniques in designing and developing haptic feedback. The emphasis is on creating meaningful, reliable and usable multimodal haptic applications, based on calibrated physical parameters (force, energy transfer, frequency, displacement, waveform etc.).

Students will learn to take a holistic approach towards designing and focusing their feedback techniques for specific devices, formfactors, environments, use case, scenarios by targeting key receptors in the skin at the point of contact. The course will also introduce new approaches in testing and evaluating haptic feedback signals and systems (using Energy Transfer).

Student will explore various components of the novel Intelligent Haptic Mediation concept being researched at TAUCHI research centre and get the opportunity to further new techniques in AI-based multimodal interaction. The course is divided into seven areas which include 1) Introduction to haptics, 2) Tactile senses & haptic perception, 3) Haptic technologies and implementation techniques, 4) Force Feedback, 5) Multimodal System Evaluation parameters, 6) Multimodal Haptic Applications and scenarios, and 7) Intelligent Haptic Mediation.
