Joint doctoral studies, 1–35 cr

Tampere University
Description

The curriculum of Tampere University Doctoral School complements the instruction offered by the university's doctoral programmes. The courses are open to all doctoral researchers who have enrolled for the academic year at Tampere University.

The joint doctoral studies offered by the Doctoral School relate to five competence areas: Planning and managing the doctoral project, foundations of scientific research, critical thinking and methodological competence, researchers’ communication competence, and work community skills and expert careers. Instruction is offered online and face-to-face, both in Finnish and in English to support international doctoral researchers and internationalisation at home.

Doctoral researchers can use the yearly selection of courses to choose those that best suit their personal study plans and personal goals. The joint doctoral studies organised by the Doctoral School bring together doctoral researchers from different fields of study and thus, also help develop multidisciplinary skills. The courses are designed to support different phases of the doctoral process. They help doctoral researchers build different career paths in demanding research and expert positions in and outside academia.

Objectives

The joint doctoral studies support the objectives of doctoral education set by faculties.
