Master's level studies in sociology (90 ECTS) consist of advanced study courses in sociology theories and research (25 ECTS), research methodology studies (10 ECTS), studies oriented towards working life (15 ECTS), and a master's thesis and seminar (40 ECTS).
Students with a master’s degree in social sciences specializing in sociology understand and can analyze social structures and processes and the relationships between the individual, communities, and society. They can comprehensively and critically evaluate social and scientific discourse. They can formulate sociologically meaningful research problems, collect and analyze research data, and produce academically and ethically acceptable oral and written reports. They are able, both independently and in a group, to produce research-based knowledge and to apply it in scientific, professional, and social practices. They are equipped to identify, interpret, and question societal beliefs and to express reasoned views concerning existing mindsets and practices. They can analyze and evaluate activity across various societal levels and contexts, from the local to the global. They have developed competencies that enable them to work in leadership and expert roles, especially in research, administration, communication, and education.
