The student is also able to evaluate the level of contamination and to choose a proper remediation method according to risk assessment. The student is able to design and develop remediation processes.

Content

Content Core content Complementary knowledge Specialist knowledge
1. The effect of the chemical properties to their fate in environment: physical and chemical properties, biodegradability. The migration of chemical spills in nature  The properties of environment that affect the fate of chemical
2. The basics of risk assessment and conceptual model  Evaluation of the level of contamination
3. Remediation of contaminated groundwater and soil  Selection of the proper remediation method according to risk assessment and site and contaminant properties
4. Legislation and its impacts on decision making  Soil contamination in Finland. Sustainability of remediation

Instructions for students on how to achieve the learning outcomes

The grade will be determined on the basis of an exam (50%) and exercises (50%). To pass the course with a grade 1 the student will have to score at least 50 % of the maximum points.
