Learning Outcomes
After finishing the course, the student understands what adhesion means with different materials (mainly "soft" materials like paper and polymers) and is able to evaluate adhesion properties of materials. Also adhesion issues of (polymer) composites are explained to the students. Student also knows parameters affecting adhesion and is able to solve problems related to the adhesion.
Content
Content | Core content | Complementary knowledge | Specialist knowledge |
1. | Adhesion theories and the role of adhesion in different processes like coating, lamination and printing and in final products. | The student is able to solve possible adhesion problems in different production processes and can predict functionality of materials.
2. | Wetting and surface energy
3. | Parameters affecting adhesion (in the above mentioned processes) | Different surface treatment and modification methods (e.g. corona, flame, plasma, chemical modification (primers, adhesion promoters) will be introduced during the course.
4. | Measurement/evaluation of adhesion |
