Attend the laboratorial sessions, prepare a short report on the lab works.
Pass the final exam based on the lectures contents and material provided.

Learning Outcomes

Understand and predict the structure and reactivity of principal organic compounds found in biological systems. Learn about the main methods used for synthetic preparation and modification of carbohydrates, amino acids and peptides, nucleic acids and the use of enzymes in asymmetric organic synthesis. The course will be composed by lectures, exercises and weekly laboratory works (2-4 h/session). Upon finalizing the lab works, students will have to prepare a 4 page report that will be used for assessment of the final grade.

Instructions for students on how to achieve the learning outcomes

Students evaluation will be divided in practical and theoretical parts. The score for the theoretical part will be determined by students performance on a written exam covering the contents of the lectures. The practical component will be composed by 6 lab sessions of 2-4 h each (of mandatory attendance) and delivery of a 4 pages written report on the findings. Students performance on the lab sessions and the quality of the report will determine the score of the practical component. The final grade will be composed of 30 % from the practical component and 70 % from the theoretical component (written exam).
