To pass the course you need: 1. Get at least 40% in the coursework; 2. Get at least 40% in the exam; 3. Have an average of at least 50% (Exam+CW)/2 >= 50. In case you do not make a 40% in the coursework you are not eligible to give the exam. Please keep in mind that the marks for the CW will be given just a few days before the exam. This is due to the tight schedule of lectures and in order to give you a longer deadline to submit a complete CW. Finally, if you do not manage to get at least 40% in the CW, there is no second chance. |
Learning Outcomes
This course examines various aspects of security in widely deployed communication networks, including theoretical and practical areas. The course begins with the presentation of core cryptographic primitives and how cryptography can be used in real life scenarios. Then, detailed principles and examples regarding secure communication between two parties over an insecure communication channel are presented. The second half of the course discusses attacks and techniques that a powerful adversary can follow in order to find information that otherwise should remain private. Throughout the course, students will be exposed to many exciting open problems in the field and will have the opportunity to work on programming projects related to security.

Harjoitustyön teon etenemisen ja lopputuloksen perusteella annetaan maksimissaan yhden arvosanavälin verran lisäpisteitä tenttiin. Tentti koskee enimmäkseen luentoja, mutta sisältää noin yhdessä viidestä tehtävässään sovelluskykyä edustavan haasteen, jonka kontekstina on yksi kurssilla valmistunut harjoitustyö (tarvittaessa joltain aiemmalta vuodelta).
