Osaamistavoitteet

After the course, the student is able to... 1. ...explain and interpret figures of merit for different actuators. 2. ...explain the physical basis of major active actuator materials: a) piezoelectric materials; b) shape memory materials; c) light and electro responsive polymers; d) magnetorheological actuators. 3. ...explain how the aforementioned materials can be used in actuators. 4. ...compare the aforementioned actuators in terms of their figures of merits. 5. ...quantify the figures of merits of piezoelectric actuators, shape memory actuators and soft fluidic actuators by own measurements. 6. ...fabricate soft fluidic actuators by 3D printing and casting. 7. ...visualize measurement results using Matlab. 8. ...report own measurement results in a technical writing style

3. Electroactive polymer actuators: effect, design, actuator types, figures of merit. Fabrication of soft fluidic actuators. Light-controlled actuators: effect and design.  Control aspects and applications of electroactive polymer actuators and soft actuators.  Fabrication and material issues of electroactive polymer actuators. 
4. Magnetorheological actuators: effect, design, actuator types, figures of merit.   Control aspects and applications of magnetorheological actuators.   Fabrication and material issues of magnetorheological actuators.  

Ohjeita opiskelijalle osaamisen tasojen saavuttamiseksi

The student will participate in the lectures, prepare to answer quizzes during the lectures, and participate in three laboratory works. A prereport and a lab report is written from every laboratory. The student should also read the book, which is available digitally.
