Objectives
The objective of the course is to give a deeper view onto microfluidics as one of the miniaturization technologies. The students will not only learn about state-of-the-art developments in the field, but also have excercises including simulation and modelling.

Contents
Content Core content Complementary knowledge Specialist knowledge
1. scaling effect in microfluidics  - fluid mechanics theory
- FEMLAB and MATLAB use to model and simulate microfluidis phenomena
flow characterization techniques
2. application of microfluidic components
3. function principles of microfluidic components: micropumps, microvalves, micromixers, microreactors, micro flow sensors  - other microsensors possible to utilize
- FEMLAB and MATLAB use to model and simulate microfluidis phenomena
detection techniques for biotechnology
4. energy transformation effects
5. fabrication of microfluidic components in polymer  fabrication of micro components in other materials (Si, glass, metal, composites)

Requirements for completing the course
- to finish all given exercises and participate in the final seminar - to pass the exam

Assessment criteria
- exam over 50% - accepted excercises - especially well done excercises may improve the overall grade
