Learning outcomes

The aim of the course is to expand the vocabulary students need in their studies and later in the working life. During the course students will also learn new grammatical structures needed in everyday communication.

Content

1.	Vocabulary: Studying and working: a job application and job interview, formal and informal discussions at work and in everyday context. Making phone calls. Expressing and justifying one's opinion.	Pronouns and adverbs.
2.	Speaking: an oral presentation and discussion exercises on the topics of the course.
3.	Listening: listening comprehension exercises.
4.	Reading: Texts on the topics of the course. Partially authentic texts.	Reading strategies.
5.	Writing: an effective CV and an argumentative text.
6.	Grammar: Finnish sentence types, conditional, transitive and intransitive verbs, the genitive case and the local cases in plural.

Evaluation criteria for the course

Active participation in lectures (75% attendance), assignments, oral presentation and successful performance in the final examination.
