Requirements

Presence at lectures, own presentations, acting as opponent (depending on number of credits) 2 credit units are given for attending 15 seminars and dissertations and submission of learning diaries from these seminars/dissertations, feedback and questions to presenters at attended seminars. The student is required to make one presentation about topic within doctoral thesis (20-30 min) to audience unfamiliar with the research topic. Presenting student must return to course database material about the presentation one week before the presentation. Additional presentations are equal to attending five seminars and submitting learning diaries of each. Acting as an opponent in a seminar and submission of learning diary from seminar is equal to two seminars with regular learning diary. It is possible to make 1- 2 learning diaries from each attended conference, if the sessions are agreed with the supervisor of postgraduate studies. Maximum of 50 % learning diaries can be from conferences.

Learning Outcomes

The student gets to know research developments within the research themes of the Department of Chemistry and Bioengineering and research themes of companies as well as research entities working in cooperation with the Department of Chemistry and Bioengineering. The student gains experience in presenting own research findings and receiving feedback and learns to participate in scientific discussions. The student gets feedback from his/her own research and learns to give constructive feedback to other students about scientific presentations.
