Learning Outcomes

After completing the course, students will be able to understand the principles of production automation systems in discrete automation. Student is familiar with the common automation devices used in a production system and can select right devices to a production line. He/she learns how to implement modern digital manufacturing software to design a production line for a given task. Student understands the principles of the production line control systems, safety and the basics of the programming of automation components.

Content

Content Core content Complementary knowledge Specialist knowledge
1. Production automation devices for material handling and storage such as industrial robots, feeders and conveyors. Implementation of such devices in production automation. Safety in production automation.  Additional automation devices like sensors, machine vision and control systems.
2. Principles of the programming of automation devices like industrial robots, logic- and numerical control.   Basic syntax of programming languages used in automation devices.   Adaptive control of automation systems.
3. Production line layout design. Basic design principles of a production automation system.   Selecting the right devices for a effective production system for a given automaton task.  Selecting the optimal components for an effective and economical automation system.
