Luiza-Paula Preda student ambassador
Student Ambassador Luiza-Paula Preda moved to Tampere from Romania for her studies in TAMK.

How long have you been in Tampere and what brought you here?

I have been living here for 2 years. After I finished my Bachelor Degree in my home country, Romania, I felt a bit lost. I then decided to continue my studies abroad. TAMK was my first option because it was the only university with such study flexibility.

What subject do you study and how did you choose it?

I am studying Media and Arts, with a focus on Fine Arts.

I am a creative person; I love art history and photography. I think this degree combines everything that I am interested in. I feel that combining media and arts can open new doors for me and offer more work possibilities than Art alone.

How would you describe Tampere as a student city?

If you are an active person who loves sports or any outdoor activities, Tampere is the place to be! There are so many parks and forests here. They are now my favourite places!

Have you had issues settling in Tampere? How did you overcome difficulties?

I didn't apply for student housing in time. Two weeks before arriving in Finland, I still didn't have a place to stay. Mirja, TAMK's social counsellor for international students, was so supportive. She even told me that I can stay at her place if the situation doesn't get solved in time. She helped me all the way! I was looking for private apartments, sending her the offers. She would visit them while having me on Skype. I have never met such kind people before! Finnish people are the best.

To whom would you recommend Tampere as a place to study and why?

I would recommend Tampere as a place to study to anyone who is open, active and eager to discover new things. For me, it is more about TAMK, than the city itself.
