"I love the atmosphere in Finland the most: clean streets, fresh air and quiet, but friendly people"- a student ambassador story
How long have you been in Tampere and what brought you here?
I first arrived in Tampere in August 2021 to start my study for a bachelor's in Science and Engineering. However, I was back to my home country - Vietnam - for the whole 2022 summer. Therefore, until now, I've just been in Tampere for almost a year.
What subject(s) do you study and what made you choose them?
I have Software Development as my major and Applied Mathematics as my minor. I have always been into math and programming during school in Vietnam, that's why I continue with them in university.
What do you like most about Tampere and Finland? What has been the most surprising or different thing about living here?
I love the atmosphere in Finland the most: clean streets, fresh air, quiet but friendly people, and many many more. But still, I was really surprised by the fact that Tampere is super student-friendly when living here, as I heard that the Finnish people are pretty reserved.
What are your hobbies in Tampere? Have you tried out any new hobbies since coming here?
I love jogging with my friends in the neighborhood, which I have never done before coming to Tampere.
What kind of student activities have you participated in?
There are hundreds of student events here. I participated in many of them, including beach parties and boardgame nights.
What would you say to someone who's trying to decide whether Tampere is the right place to come to study and live?
If you love the slow pace of living, but also to be surrounded by people from different cultures, join us and come to Tampere. I'm sure that you won't regret about your decision.
What is your favourite thing about the student culture in Finland?
Student culture is really fascinating and huge to me. It's great that students can get their freedom to organize different activities here.
