"If you’re looking for a cosy city, good quality education and a fun student life, Tampere University has a lot to offer" – a student ambassador story
Why did you choose your current programme?
I chose Tampere University for my doctoral studies in Medicine, Bioscience and Biomedical Engineering for it's highly established research facilities and international environment.
What is your favourite thing about the student culture in Finland?
I like that the student life in Finland is quite balanced. On one hand it’s quite intensive with the quality of education and at the same time it is complemented by student-centric activities like sports, well-being, festive events and others.
Can you share with us your experiences in Finland and Tampere?
As a doctoral student in Tampere, I really enjoy the flexibility I have in managing my experimental work and the academic courses I take. I’ve studied in two other countries, and I would say I enjoy the practical and interpersonal elements of Finnish studies. In every course, I feel like I receive individual help and feedback.
What would you say to someone planning to study and live in Tampere?
To those who are looking to apply, I would highly recommend going through the application requirements carefully, make sure you have all the documentation ready, as specified, and well in advance before the application period begins. Don’t slack on the motivation letter. When in doubt, its’s a good idea to check with the admissions office and helpdesk. And always remember that your worth goes beyond your application, so trust your gut!
What is your favourite place in the city to go for fun with friends?
Tampere is a cosy city to live in. Whether you’re into a busy city lifestyle, or want to experience culture and art, or love city-wide events, or just like chilling out with friends, there’s something for everyone. My absolute favourite are the forest paths where I can take long scenic walks. It’s quite refreshing to feel safe no matter where I go.
What are some of your hobbies?
I enjoy walking near the lake called Kaukajärvi, I think it looks amazing no matter what the season it is. There is also a lakeside sauna, and it’s totally another feeling to relax in there. I would definitely say I've been doing a lot more photography than before coming to Finland.
