"It's always enriching to be in contact with people from such diverse backgrounds"-a student ambassador story
Tell us about yourself and your studies
I'm Anna Carolina and I come from Brazil. I had always been curious about Finland and moved here in 2021. I am currently studying in the master's degree programme in Global and Transnational Sociology.
Why did you choose your current programme?
I did my bachelor's in Communications and decided to follow the master's programme in Global and Transnational Sociology here at Tampere University. The programme is part of the Social Science Research degree and offers a critical perspective on global processes and interconnected phenomena around the world. It was a perfect fit for my research interests, enabling me to analyze the social, political and cultural forces.
Can you share with us your experiences in Finland and Tampere?
Finland is such a different place from my home country, and it has been exhilarating to experience those differences. The weather is the most obvious one, and both the long nights and never-ending days.
What kind of student activities have you participated in?
I try to participate in as many student activities as I can, and I think it is a good way to fully experience the student life here. I've been to several different events organized by my program's student association: museum visits, gaming nights, trips, study events, sit sits, parties and, of course, going to the sauna. I also try to promote gatherings with my fellow students, and it's always enriching to be in contact with people from such diverse backgrounds.
What would you say to someone planning to study and live in Tampere?
It is a great city to live in. The city center offers you great entertainment possibilities, and we have a good study structure too.
What is your favourite place in the city to go for fun with friends?
All the amazing cafés in town! Tampere offers a wide variety of cafés that you can visit for a cup of coffee, some reading or hanging out with friends.
