"Tampere is the most peaceful city that I have ever been in" – student ambassador story
How long have you been in Tampere and what brought you here originally?
It is my third year now in Tampere. The reason that brought me here is a contingency to me. Back to 2015, I was studying my first year of university in Vietnam, my brother advised me to find a way to study abroad. This advice made me think of new challenges, experiences and opportunities that I could gain when I study abroad. Then I found out about Finland, which is famous for good education system and advanced public welfare system. At that time, I knew Finland was my destination place to live and study for following years. After that, I prepared and tried my best to do the entrance exam. And "Taadaa" I'm here now! The decision of moving to Finland for studying is a significant milestone in my life.
What subject do you study and how did you choose it?
I am currently in my third year of International Business Bachelor’s degree. In 2015, I was studying Business Administration in Vietnam’s university. Then I found out that in Finnish education there are universities of applied sciences which is more practical than the program that I was in. This urged me to choose International Business degree in Finland so that I could have chance to experience and challenge new things.
What do you most like about Tampere and Finland?
Finland was chose to be the happiest country in the world in 2018. Its happiness is shown by Finnish people, I am impressed by their friendliness, kindness and trustworthy. Tampere is the most peaceful city that I have ever been. Moreover, the city is surrounded by lakes and forests which I like the most about Tampere. From my apartment, I just need to take few steps to reach the forest and the lake. Tampere is also famous for innovation and technology, the local government puts huge effort to develop facility and economy of the city to make the best place for residents.
What about your hobbies in Tampere or in Finland?
My hobby is photography and Finland is seem to be the great destination for my hobby. Finland has beautiful nature, ancient European architectures, magnificent aurora. Thanks to these things I don’t need to be professional to have good photos. Moreover, transportation between cities in Finland is so convenient so I can easily go to another city to discover new sights. Besides, there is a Facebook group named Tampere where people can shared their beautiful shoots of the city.
What would you say to someone deciding whether Tampere is the right place to come to study and live?
Tampere is surrounded by big universities which gives you a wide choice of education fields. With a huge amount of students, there are a lot of activities, events and organisations for you to join in order to develop skills and expand your network. Furthermore Tampere is aiming to be a smart city in near future which creates a better place to live. If you are hesitating to choose a place to study, you should definitely choose Tampere.
