"Tampere is one of the most popular cities in Finland - especially for students"-a student ambassador story
Tell us about yourself and your studies
My name is Marie-Theres and I am originally from Germany. In 2017 I came to Finland and I started studying German, Finnish and English language at Tampere University. I finished my Bachelor's degree here and also pursued a Master's degree.
Why did you choose your current programme?
I chose the degree program in languages because I've always been interested in my own mother tongue and foreign languages. Additionally, it gives me the opportunity to include courses taught in three different languages in my curriculum.
Can you share with us your experiences in Finland and Tampere?
Before I moved here I had visited Finland already a lot of times so everything has already been pretty familiar and I never experienced any kind of culture shock. I'd say that Finland offers a good quality of life and things are well organised. Then there is of course Finland's beautiful nature: lots of forests, lakes and it's still possible to live in the middle of nowhere here.
Tampere is one of the most popular cities in Finland - especially for students. There are always lots of different cultural happenings and you don't have to go far either to spend time in the nature since the city is located between two large lakes and several forests.
What would you say to someone planning to study and live in Tampere?
Go for it! Tampere is a great place to live and you won't get bored here.
