"Tampere is a student-friendly city, and a tech hub, which equates to excellent student life and great prospects for employment"-a student ambassador story
Tell us about yourself and your studies
I was born in New Delhi, India, but I've lived in several Indian cities. I have been in Finland for a little over three months now. I was extremely happy to receive an offer of acceptance from Tampere University! I am currently pursuing an MSc in Biomedical Sciences and Engineering, with a specialization in Micro- and Nano-Devices.
On most days, you'll find me studying in the library or the main campus building where we have the ideal studying environment (in my opinion!). In my free time, I like to relax with music, gaming, binge-watching, and football!
I believe that doing my Master's at Tampere University has been a brilliant experience so far. The quality of teaching and facilities, the richness and diversity of students and culture, and of course, the summation of it all than been an enlightening learning experience.
Why did you choose your current programme?
I currently hold a Bachelor's in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering. However, as a kid, I had always been fascinated by medicine and healthcare. When the opportunity for me to pursue this program arose, it was a no-brainer. This program allows me to apply the knowledge I gained I jumped into it and I haven't looked back.
Can you share with us your experiences in Finland and Tampere?
If I had to sum it up in three words, I'd say 'Hectic', 'Enlightening', and 'Peaceful'. I know that 'Peaceful' and 'Hectic' don't go together but bear with me.
Finland is a beautiful and peaceful country. Everywhere you go, you'll see people from all walks of life coming together for a chat, a coffee, or a beer! Finns are known to be naturally introverted but don't let that fool you! They can be as social as anyone once they feel comfortable enough. Everyone is patient and helpful. As far as the cold is concerned, well... I haven't experienced the full brunt of it, but I believe (or do I?) that I'll be fine.
Tampere is a student-friendly city, and a tech hub, which equates to excellent student life and great prospects for employment. It has everything for everyone, from hiking trails and camping places, quiet parks, and historical sites, to great nightlife!
What kind of student activities have you participated in?
So far, I've participated in several guild activities, such as NamiAppro, which is a cafe-hopping event, to beach parties, sitsits, and student council meetings, to Senssibileet (I'll let you look this up on your own!)
There are several kinds of guilds and clubs so rest assured, there's a place and a people for everyone who comes to the university!
What would you say to someone planning to study and live in Tampere?
Although I may not be the best person to answer this as I've just come here, I believe that this is one of the best decisions I've taken in my life. Tampere has been very good to me, as I'm sure it'll be to you should you choose to join us. Everyone's welcome here!
