Tampere University's annual review 2023

Tampere University is one of the most multidisciplinary universities in Finland and brings together research and education in technology, health and society. In addition to our three campuses in Tampere, we operate in the university consortia in Pori and Seinäjoki. Join us as we look back on our highlights from 2023!

At the end of 2023, there were 22,500 students from 113 nationalities working towards a degree at Tampere University.

We employed more than 4,200 people representing 83 nationalities.

We conferred more than 4,400 degrees in 2023. 

Highlights from 2023

  • The number of degrees conferred by Tampere University increased from 2022. A record number of students graduated from our English-language degree programmes.   
  • In early 2023, the Board of Tampere University Foundation adopted a revised strategy for Tampere University and confirmed the indicators for evaluating the University’s performance against its strategic objectives. The Board also decided on the framework for the second stage of the facilities programme. 
  • We successfully passed the quality assurance audit conducted by the Finnish Education Evaluation Centre (FINEEC).  
  • Keijo Hämäläinen took up his appointment as our new President on 1 June 2023.

Centres of Excellence 

Centres of Excellence (CoE) are communities comprising one or more research groups that are recognised for their research excellence and receive funding from the Research Council of Finland. CoEs conduct cutting-edge research and provide training to researchers.

Continuing education

Staff

We employ a staff of 4,200. We have more than 3,000 employees involved in teaching and research, approximately 100 employees working in our teacher training school, and almost 1,000 members of other staff.

Rented floor space

Pylväsgraafi vuokra-aloista tuhansina neliömetreinä mitattuna. Vuokra-alat ovat säilyneet lähes ennallaan vuodesta 2021 vuoteen 2023. Vuonna 2023 vuokra-ala oli yhteensä 231 000 neliömetriä.

Sustainable development

We are building an operational culture that integrates sustainability into our operations, our teaching, research, development and innovation activities and our interaction with society. We are working to find effective, multidisciplinary solutions for promoting sustainable development both locally and globally. We develop solutions to tackle climate change, protect the natural environment and improve the well-being and sustainability of societies.
