Tampere University's annual review 2023
At the end of 2023, there were 22,500 students from 113 nationalities working towards a degree at Tampere University.
We employed more than 4,200 people representing 83 nationalities.
We conferred more than 4,400 degrees in 2023.
Highlights from 2023
- The number of degrees conferred by Tampere University increased from 2022. A record number of students graduated from our English-language degree programmes.
- In early 2023, the Board of Tampere University Foundation adopted a revised strategy for Tampere University and confirmed the indicators for evaluating the University’s performance against its strategic objectives. The Board also decided on the framework for the second stage of the facilities programme.
- We successfully passed the quality assurance audit conducted by the Finnish Education Evaluation Centre (FINEEC).
- Keijo Hämäläinen took up his appointment as our new President on 1 June 2023.

Centres of Excellence
Centres of Excellence (CoE) are communities comprising one or more research groups that are recognised for their research excellence and receive funding from the Research Council of Finland. CoEs conduct cutting-edge research and provide training to researchers.
