"There are several different activities and paths you may want to explore, and I suggest you do that"-a student ambassador story
Tell us about yourself and your studies
I was born in India, raised in Singapore and have just recently moved to Finland. I was delighted when I got accepted to start my higher education at Tampere University. I am a first-year bachelor's student studying Sustainable Urban Development in the social sciences track. As I kick off my studies at the university, I hope to expand my ever-growing circle of connections and interact with different people.
Did you develop any special skills while studying in Tampere?
Currently a first-year student so none yet.
What tips would you give to new students who are applying to study here?
Have an open mind about everything. Once you get here, there are several different activities and paths you may want to explore, and I suggest you do that. Diversifying you experiences helps you get to build connections and interact with different people. Moreover, it will also help you to better understand the Finnish culture from different perspectives. In summary, do not be shy or hesitant in attending an event by yourself.
How do you get around the city?
Mostly by foot, but when running late using the excellent public transportation links the city provides.
What is your favourite thing about the student culture in Finland?
The guilds and overalls. The overalls are very comfortable and gives the feeling of belonging.
