Karen Eguiazarian

Dr. Karen O. Eguiazarian (Egiazarian) received M.Sc. in mathematics from Yerevan State University, Armenia, in 1981, Ph.D. degree in physics and mathematics from Moscow State University, Russia, in 1986, and Doctor of Technology in signal processing from Tampere University of Technology, Finland, in 1994. 

Dr. Karen Eguiazarian is a Professor of Signal Processing at the Department of Computing Sciences, Tampere University, Tampere, Finland. He was a visiting professor at the Departments of Engineering, University of California, Santa Barbara, USA, at the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, University of Delaware, USA, during 2006, at the Department Telecommunications and Information Processing, Ghent University, Belgium, during 2013, and at Nvidia during 2013-2014. He is a co-founder of Aragit Oy (Ltd) and co-founder and CEO of Noiseless Imaging Oy (Ltd), Tampere University of Technology spin-off company.

Dr. Karen Eguiazarian is leading ‘a Computational imaging’ group at the Department of Computing Sciences, Tampere University, Tampere. He was a head of Signal Processing Research Community (SPRC) at Tampere University of Technology (2016-2018). He is a Docent in the Department of Information Technology, University of Jyväskyla, Finland.

Dr. Karen Eguiazarian is an IEEE Fellow. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Electronic Imaging, served as associate editor of the IEEE Transactions on Image Processing. He is a member of the DSP Technical Committee of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society. He was a chair or a member of organizing committee of over 40 conferences and workshops. The recent and coming ones: EUVIP 2018, Image Processing: Algorithms and Systems (IPAS), EI Symposium, 2020, and ICIP 2020. He has published over 650 journal and conference papers, has supervised 25 Doctoral theses.

Dr. Karen Eguiazarian was a recipient of Service Award from the Society for Imaging Science and Technology (IS&T) in 2014. In 2015 he has received the Honorary Doctoral degree from Don State-Technical University, Rostov-Don, Russia.

Dr. Eguiazarian's (Egiazarian) main research interests are in the field of computational imaging, compressed sensing, efficient signal processing algorithms, image/video restoration and compression.
