Have you ever considered how we learn and develop our understanding of care? How do we become from care receivers to caregivers throughout our lives?

If you are interested in this discussion, I would like to welcome you to come to an Open Talk on Thinking about the Development of Care, by Assist. Prof Allegra Midgette from Texas A&M. The lecture will happen on Thursday 16th of June at 15:30 in Virta Auditorium 1st Floor (Åkerlundinkatu 5, room 109), or via Zoom https://tuni.zoom.us/j/62612628351.

No registration is required.

Care, as a practice, is essential to human development, relationships, and the maintenance of society. Despite being a fundamental practice, we know less about how individuals develop from care-receivers (e.g. recipients of parental/ familiar care) into caregivers (e.g., giving care to others within the present and future families), particularly within the family context. In this talk, I present findings based on a thematic analysis of focus groups investigating how parents and caregivers from different countries conceptualize and experience care within the family. Following a presentation of the findings, I discuss implications for developing curricula that provide practical caregiving skills for supporting future caregivers earlier in their development, so they can be better prepared for their future family roles.
