Tampere University celebrates the start of the academic year of 2023–2024 with an Opening Ceremony on 4 September 2023.
Opening Ceremony celebrates the start of the new academic year once more as a public event, this time on the city centre campus.

- Opening speech – Keijo Hämäläinen, President of the University
- Keynote address – Anna-Kaisa Ikonen, Minister of Local and Regional Government

- Naming the Alumnus/Alumna of the Year
- Speech by a student union representative – Anniina Honkasaari, Trey Chair
- Music – Teekkarikuoro
- Maamme, The Finnish national anthem

Please fill in the participation form here by 12.00 on Monday 28 August. We kindly invite professors ( assistant, associate and full professors and professors of practice) to join the academic procession. Registration can be done via the link above.
The ceremony is also streamed online and can be watched remotely.
During the opening day, programme targeted especially at students is also arranged as the Opening Festival takes place on the campus grounds after Opening Ceremony. The festivities are also followed by an award ceremony at 15.00 where prizes for excellence in the fields of research, education and societal interaction are awarded.
