Welcome to the opening ceremony of an exhibition showcasing art and stories made by young refugees about their experiences building new lives in Finland, Norway and Scotland. The original artworks, photographs and videos on display describe these young people’s thoughts about safety, hope, belonging and success. The exhibition is in Päätalo, Alakuppila lobby until 12.4.2024.

In the opening ceremony young artists, researchers and invited visitors present the project. We will also watch a documentary made by film-maker Petter Korkman, who followed the project in Finland, Norway and Scotland. After the ceremony, there is a chance to get a guided tour at the exhibition.

15:00 Opening words

  • Mervi Kaukko (Professor and the project manager of Drawing Together, Tampere University) and Narges Jafaryan (young artist)
  • Satu Nila (Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment) 
  • Nelli Piattoeva (Professor, TRANSIT research centre, Tampere University) 

 

15:25-16:30 “Drawing Together” documentary 

  • Introduced by documentarist Petter Korkman. Refreshments are available. 

16:30-17:15 Panel discussion about refugee youth and wellbeing.

  • Chairs: Marja Tiilikainen (Research director, Migration Institute of Finland) and Abdullatif Hamidi (Young artist).

After the panel discussion, we walk to Päätalo to view the exhibition.
