Patrik Marjamaa joins Tampere University as director of finance

Patrik Marjamaa has been appointed as director of finance at Tampere University. He will take up his appointment on 15 February 2021.

Patrik Marjamaa joins Tampere University from his current position as the City of Kangasala’s development director. He has previously worked as the City of Vantaa’s director of finance. Marjamaa has extensive experience of financial management in the public sector and the development of processes, services and financial information systems. Marjamaa holds a master’s degree both in economics and business administration and in administrative sciences. He has also completed an Executive MBA in Public Management.

“I am excited to take on this new challenge and develop the financial management activities at Tampere Universities. Universities and universities of applied science have a pivotal role in our entire society and, among others, in maintaining the competitiveness of individual regions. Finance is one of the enablers that help the Tampere Universities community achieve success,” says Marjamaa, himself an alumnus of the University of Tampere.

As director of finance, Marjamaa will be responsible for strategic and operative financial management and planning processes at Tampere Universities. He will also oversee financial planning and administration in the units and the provision of financial management services. The director of finance leads the Financial Services unit that employs approximately 100 people. The director of finance is a member of the Management Group of Tampere University.

Altogether 14 candidates applied for the position of director of finance when it was openly advertised. In addition, two persons were invited to apply through an executive search.
