More than 4,000 students have graduated from Tampere University in 2024, including students who completed a bachelor’s degree. More than 50% of all graduates were awarded a master’s degree. The Tampere region boasts a high graduate retention rate, with more than 50% of students opting to stay in the region after graduation. The graduation ceremony is an ideal occasion to remind us all that the fundamentals of our society remain strong despite global turmoil.

By 9 December, Tampere University had awarded 1,929 bachelor’s degrees, 2,118 master’s degrees and Licentiate of Medicine degrees, and 203 doctoral degrees in the year 2024.

These numbers are provisional as additional degrees will continue to be recorded daily in December. The final graduate numbers will be available in January 2025.

“Graduation marks a significant personal achievement, deserving of special recognition for all graduates. Take pride in your new degree, as studies show that it is a worthwhile investment in your future. I send my warmest congratulations to all our graduates. I wish you all the success and courage in your future endeavours,” says Vice President for Education Marja Sutela.

Vice President Sutela is pleased with the Tampere region’s high graduate retention rate. Latest statistics demonstrate than 55% of the University’s graduates stay local after completing their studies. From 2020 to 2022, the employment rate among students who graduated from Tampere University with a master’s degree stood at an impressive 88%.

“Most of our applicants come from the south of Finland or other parts of the country. Still, more than half opt to remain in the Tampere region after graduation, highlighting the region’s appeal and sustained growth,” Sutela says.

In addition, Sutela noted that the number of master’s degrees awarded to international students has been consistently growing year by year. In 2024, international students accounted for nearly 12% of all MSc graduates at Tampere University.

In times of global turmoil, the University wants to instil hope and confidence in new graduates.

“It is not all doom and gloom in Finland. The fundamentals of our society remain strong,” Sutela says encouragingly.
