The Finnish Education Evaluation Centre (FINEEC) has granted Tampere University a Quality Label that will be valid for six years. Based on the audit conducted in spring 2023, the University’s strengths include, e.g., impactful research, versatile stakeholder co-operation and a strong quality culture.

FINEEC audits are enhancement-led, meaning that they support the continuous development of universities’ operations and identifying good practices. FINEEC conducted an audit visit to Tampere University in May 2023. The subcommittee for higher education evaluation published its decision on Tampere University’s audit on 25 August.

- Tampere University community has done an excellent job in setting up a quality system after the universities’ merger. Thus, the thanks for our success in the audit are due to the entire community. Based on the audit, our most important strengths include, e.g., impactful research, versatile stakeholder co-operation and a strong quality culture. We also appreciate FINEEC’s development recommendations because they will help us to continuously improve our operations. Quality work will continue, Provost Jarmo Takala says.

The audit panel that conducted the evaluation of Tampere University comprised:

  • Professor, PhD (Education) Markus Granlund, University of Turku (Chair)
  • student Aino Karvonen, University of Helsinki
  • University Lecturer, Doctor of Laws Sampo Mielityinen, University of Eastern Finland
  • Senior Lead, M.Sci. (Business Administration) Helena Mustikainen, Sitra

FINEEC’s news bulletin can be read on its website.

The audit report can be read on FINEEC's evaluation platform.

By passing the audit, Tampere University received FINEEC’s Quality Label which will be valid for six years. A successful audit shows that the University’s operations and quality system fulfil both national criteria and the criteria that have been set for the quality assurance of European higher education institutions (HEIs). The audits concentrate on the HEIs’ processes with which they maintain and develop the quality of education, research, and societal engagement and impact. The evaluation criteria used in the audit have been published in FINEEC’s audit manual for higher education institutions.
