We generate new knowledge that revitalises society
My research delves into the experiences and social issues affecting young people and creates new knowledge from a youth-centred perspective. Through my research, I aim to advance social justice and contribute to a sustainable future."
Professor Päivi Honkatukia, Youth Research
Our research combines knowledge from multiple disciplines and sheds light on the changes and trends reshaping our society. We examine social change from the perspectives of people, institutions and governance, addressing the most pressing social issues of our time. We are also looking to encourage critical public discussion on the current state and future direction of our society.
Our researchers are passionate and inquisitive, committed to understanding our rapidly changing world and increasingly complex society. They explore, among other things, the structure of society, culture, and people’s wellbeing, health and functional ability. They also serve as specialists in a variety of development projects and legislative processes and contribute to public discussions.
I study prostate cancer screening with the aim of reducing cancer mortality rates. We produce reliable data on the advantages and disadvantages of screening and develop evidence-based solutions for healthcare.”
Professor Anssi Auvinen, Health Sciences Unit
We cultivate critical thinkers
Our research-based education has shaped generations of experts and decision-makers. Our alumni hold influential positions where they promote societal progress, wellbeing and education. Each year, we confer nearly 400 master’s degrees and approximately 40 doctoral degrees.
We employ research and teaching staff who enjoy an excellent reputation both nationally and internationally. Our degree programmes are highly sought-after by prospective students, and we are a dependable and professional partner for our collaborators.
In this era of societal transformation, the disruption of ecological processes and the approaching end of the fossil fuel age are redefining the very foundations of our society. The demand for expertise and knowledge that can revitalise both science and society remains strong.
We encourage our alumni, citizens, associations, companies and communities to support our efforts and invest in research that drives positive social change. With your donations, we can support the important and influential work of promising young scholars."
