About me
I am a Professor of Physics by background. My expertise is in optical physics, more specifically in nonlinear optics. I have made pioneering contributions in nonlinear optical properties of nanostructured materials, including surfaces and thin films, metamaterials, and individual nano objects. I have also developed unique, polarization-based measurement techniques for the characterization of such materials. For these achievements, I have been nominated as Fellow member of both Optica (former Optical Society) and SPIE.
Since 2010, I have been increasingly involved with administration, first as a part-time Dean and then Laboratory Head at the former Tampere University of Technology. Since 2019, I have served in my present position as full-time Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences of the newly founded Tampere University. As Dean, I am responsible for directing this faculty that represents an interesting combination of traditional engineering sciences and natural sciences. The faculty comprises about 600 people and has total budget of about 50 M€.
