About me

Presently I work as Professor of Metals technology at TAU's Hervanta Campus. Metals technology is a wide research area spreading from the development of new alloys to the utilization of traditional and new manufacturing methods in the production of structural components. The manufacturing methods we are interested in include forming (also forging and hot/cold rolling), additive manufacturing, welding and heat-treating among others. Main target is to understand how the final properties can be improved by the help of metallurgy. In practice, our goal is to understand the basic phenomena and mechanisms in the development of optimum microstructure and properties. One novel alloy group we are focusing on is high entropy alloys. We also have a major focus on steel research, where the main driving force for the research and development of new low alloyed steel grades has been the automotive industry. Presently, the utilization of new heat treatment procedures in order to improve formability (especially press formability) are under investigation. Those include metal coated and uncoated press hardening boron steels, novel multiphase steels like Q&P and other steels utilizing transformation induced plasticity effect. In addition, due to my over 20 years experience in industry, large part of my groups activities are done in co-operation with industry. This co-operation includes both long projects but also smaller studies/experimental works.
