CEIWA - Circular Economy of water in industrial processes (ended project)

In the future, industrial emissions will face more stringent regulations that concern especially water intensive industry, such as pulp and paper industry. To respond to the ascending challenges, water management and circularity play a crucial role and thus, the focus of CEIWA is on industrial water.

The management of complex circular industrial water systems is a challenge that requires new tools to perform efficiently. CEIWA project develops solutions for digitalization, technology development, management of different pollutants, and legislative aspects. In addition to providing solutions to the water intensive industry, the results of the project are also amenable by technology and service providers.

At Tampere University, the project focuses on the following topics: 1) control of closed industrial water cycles by developing solutions for monitoring, controlling and optimisation, 2) sustainable treatment processes by developing new and improving current wastewater and sludge treatment systems, and 3) characterising and separating microplastics from sludge samples from industrial wastewater treatment plants.
