Cyberhate

Cyberhate has raised concerns in decision and policy makers and citizens in recent years. This project produces research-evidence on cyberhate in society from various angles including hate speech, cyberhate victimization and offending, and online extremism.

Background

Cyberhate has become more common and generated concerns among decision and policy makers and citizens. Although hate is known phenomenon and based on various historical circumstances, open and frank expressions of hate have exploded during 2010s. This is due to growing number of societal tensions and changes in communication culture, which has been induced in 2000s by Internet and later on the increased use of social media. Therefore, it is essential to investigate cyberhate to be able to understand the phenomenon in more depth and find remedies to reduce and legally tackle the problem.
