Development and implementation of AI education methods and digital tools supporting tackling disinformation (Infotester4Education)

Tampere University of Applied Sciences
Duration of project1.4.2024–31.3.2027

The project's goals are:
1. increase the audience of reliable information, to make the society, including HEI, aware of how false information is spread and encourage them to verify the information before it is shared with others,
2. increase the awareness and practical skills in detecting disinformation among EU citizens, to make the public aware of  methods for detecting disinformation on the Web and social media.

Goal

One of the pillars of democracy is freedom of speech. It is also our great common European value and pilar of academic environment. In the modern world, words (information) spread rapidly. One reason is freedom of speech. The second is the widespread digitization of both the media and end users. It is, among others, misunderstood freedom of speech and digitization that have become a tool of undemocratic forces that serve to spread disinformation. In this way, they affect the understanding of the situation and, as a result, enforce the expected attitudes of society and citizens. Countering disinformation is an important social mission. Repeated disinformation deepens fear in the public and perpetuates false beliefs, which often can lead to catastrophic social consequences.
