Digital Tools for Smart Planning - SmartDesign

Tampere University
Duration of project1.12.2024–1.11.2026
Area of focusSociety, Technology

The Digital Tools for Smart Planning (SmartDesign) project continues in the footsteps of Laajennetun todellisuuden Häme -cooperation project. SmartDesign project was launched to accelerate the adoption of new smart planning tools among companies based in the Tampere and Kanta-Häme regions in Finland. Tampere University and Häme University of Applied Sciences HAMK cooperate in the project.

What we do and why?

The project comprises 25 pilots that allow companies to test how the new technologies work in practice. Our technological areas of focus are augmented reality (XR technology), game engines, artificial intelligence and reality capture technology, which are all advancing at a furious pace.

Still, companies are missing out on valuable growth opportunities because they do not have enough information about the benefits of adopting these technologies or may not have the chance to try them out. The pilots will be planned in cooperation with partner companies and tied into their own development activities.

Target groups

The main target groups of the project are companies in the manufacturing, real estate and construction industries. Municipalities, cities and other research institutions and organisations are also involved in the activities. The triple helix of academia, industry and the public sector lays the foundation for sustained regional vitality, which is also something the project is looking to promote.

Visibility and impact

We will actively communicate information about the pilots, workshops and other activities through both traditional and social media. Tampere University co-creation platform CoreLab will coordinate communications.

As part of the project, we will build a network of international contacts with the business world and research institutions. International cooperation helps local companies grow their business and expand abroad and thereby promotes regional vitality. International cooperation also supports the creation of new development projects.

Funding source

The project is funded by the Regional Council of Häme and Council of Tampere Region.

News about the funding agreement on Regional Council of Häme website is here in Finnish.
