FIN-CLARIAH – Common Language Resources and Technology Infrastructure
FIN-CLARIAH is a research infrastructure project funded by the Academy of Finland (2022–2025) that comprises two components, DARIAH-FI and FIN-CLARIN. FIN-CLARIN is a mature infrastructure with a high-quality service model through its online service centre The Language Bank of Finland. This part of the infrastructure keeps integrating common tools and resources for processing language and language-related data. At the same time, national surveys and evidence from research projects have shown a need for infrastructure also supporting other types of data and questions.
FIN-CLARIN’s focus on centrally provided resources for language-based research will be complemented by DARIAH-FI’s wider discipline base and bottom-up approach to data and service creation. Beyond collaborating at the boundaries where their missions overlap, both components will share facilities for the management and negotiation of material rights, for technical access, as well as for hosting documentation, tools and services.
The FIN-CLARIAH consortium comprises the University of Helsinki, Aalto University, Tampere University, the University of Eastern Finland, the University of Jyväskylä, the University of Turku, the University of Vaasa and the University of Oulu. The service is built by CSC. The National Library of Finland participates in the consortium as a cultural heritage organisation. The consortium is headed by Research Director Krister Lindén (UH, FIN-CLARIN).
