Finnish children's self-rated health – declining subjective well-being in modern society

Tampere University
Duration of project8.1.2023–1.8.2026

Children’s declining subjective well-being, particularly regarding mental health indicators, is a global phenomenon in modern societies. The reasons are complex and require a multi-level study of society.

Self-rated health is a multifaceted measure that captures many subjective indicators of well-being within it. It is an important tool for monitoring children’s health because it combines socio-cultural factors from society with individual-level experience.

The aim of the doctoral dissertation is to investigate trends in Finnish children's subjective well-being over time and to recognize its persistent, changed and new explanatory factors.
