Finnish Longitudinal Study of Aging municipal Employees (FLAME)

A longitudinal study on Finnish municipal workers was conducted at the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health from 1981 to 2009 (for the moment). In 1981, a postal questionnaire was sent to 7344 municipal workers born between 1923 and 1935 in different areas of Finland. A total of 6257 (85.2%) 44-58-year-old persons who had been working as a municipal worker for at least 5 years responded to the baseline questionnaire. Follow-up data were collected with postal questionnaires in 1985 (n=5556), 1992 (n=4534), and 1997 (n=3815) and 2009 (n=3093). The topics studied questionnaire survey include work demands, work ability, health, lifestyle, and leisure time activities. The register data on work disability pension, retirement and causes of death for the year 1981-2013 have also been used.
