ICory

Tampere University

ICory project consortium, funded By Business Finland, focuses on building a next-generation patient-centric digital solution for orthopaedic and paediatric surgery care. The solution combines modern digital communication technologies, gamification, artificial intelligence, and robotics to take surgery care pathways to the next level.

Background

Through an experience-centric co-design approach and design thinking, we create an understanding of the needs and values of the patients, their families, and the healthcare professionals as the basis for the iterative development of the Icory solution. This understanding and digital technologies are utilized to transform all stages of patient journeys, from preparation at home, through surgery and recovery at hospital, to further recovery and rehabilitation at home.   While feelings of anxiety, fear, and pain are inevitably associated with surgeries, through gamification, robotics, and creative combination of digital and face-to-face communication, patient journeys can become playful and motivating stories in which positive experiences balance and alleviate both mental and physical stress of the situation, for children and adult patients alike.

The ICory solution also tackles the current challenges of hospitals in efficient communication with patients and their families, facilitating continuous feedback, data collection, and artificial intelligence as a basis for managing and improving the surgery care process.
