Imaging and Acoustics research infrastructure cluster
The mission of our research is to advance the field of audio-visual signal processing. We develop state-of-the-art technologies and methods that enable breakthroughs in fields such as 3D visual scene sensing, immersive displays, audio and speech signal analysis and processing, plenoptic imaging as well as computational imaging and digital holography.
The Imaging and Acoustics infrastructure supports audio-visual signal processing research. The infrastructure includes the Centre for Immersive Visual Technologies (CIVIT) which focuses on 3D visual scene sensing, processing of visual data and immersive displays.
The equipment includes sensors such as range, thermal and hyperspectral cameras, volumetric and motion capture studios, 3D and light field displays and different movement platforms. The infrastructure also contains an audio laboratory which is a studio-type room with acoustic insulation and low reverberation for making audio research experiments, such as recordings of user studies. The available equipment includes microphones, AD-converters and loudspeakers.
Finally, the infrastructure enable research of plenoptic imaging as well as computational imaging and digital holography. Two separate labs support these activities by offering equipment such as hyperspectral phase imaging systems, digital holographic microphones, light sources and light modulators.
The imaging and acoustics research is mainly funded by EU, Business Finland, Academy of Finland and industry.
