OPENA 2016-2017

Tampere University

The project relied on a web survey (OPEKA), the purpose of which was to find out how gender, work experience, and personality or teacher type correspond with technostress, and to define which factors predict technostress. OPEKA is a self evaluation tool used to measure the use of educational technology at schools.

The results of the research showed that the higher the knowledge of ICT, and the better it fits the teachers teaching style, the more support the school offered, and the more positive the teachers attitudes were, the lower that level of the experienced technostress was.

Goal

Digitization is a global megatrend that affects the work of teachers. ICT is an integral part of the Finnish education system. It may be experienced as a threat or an opportunity depending on whether it is seen as an empowering or burdening factor. At its worst, ICT can cause technostress, but at its best, it can alleviate stress and increase the workflow.

The research studies how ICT is interrelated to work well-being. Another goal is that teachers could cooperate and develop positive ways in which to benefit from the new possibilities opened by educational technology.
