Doctoral education pilot at Tampere University

Tampere University is included in the national doctoral education pilot. The aim of the pilot is to test a more flexible model of doctoral education and to promote the mobility of doctoral researchers.

The doctoral education pilot is a national expansion of research training carried out between 2024 and 2027. Through the pilot, our university has hired 106 doctoral researchers for three-year employment contracts across 13 fields.

The pilot seeks to increase the mobility of doctoral researchers between universities, companies, research institutes and other organisations. The goal is also to develop supervision and guidance and promote the employment of doctoral graduates in different sectors of society.

The Ministry of Education and Culture (OKM) has allocated a total of €255 million in funding to the universities participating in the pilot. Tampere University’s share of the funding is €27 million, corresponding to 106 doctoral researchers.
